Product Description

Ultimate Luxury! 100% Medical grade Merino Sheepskin Bareback Pad is like nothing you've ever ridden in!

Made exclusively by FREEDOM RIDING ARTICLES in the Netherlands, this unique bareback pad sets new standards in terms of riding feel and riding therapy where communication with the horse is greatly enhanced.

Special Features of the Macon Extra:

  • Anatomically shaped and built up front and back with thigh rolls and a cantle for added riding security
  • Merino sheepskin optimally adapts to the anatomy of your horse and is temperature and moisture regulating
  • The anti-bacterial and oxygen-rich breathable qualities offer no culture medium for bacteria, keeping the pad easy to keep clean and maintain
  • Convenient carry handle attached to small d-rings, which also double as breast collar attachments
  • D-ring at back for option of crupper use
  • State of the art 3-Mesh inlays for superior support and protection

Traditional bareback pads are designed for occasional riding and short sessions, but due to the double layer of sheepskin and extremely durable 3Mesh interior padding, pressure and weight on the Macon Bareback Pad are evenly distributed and your horse's back is protected from pressure from your seatbones giving an incomparable riding experience for both you & your horse. Equally as the rider, this padding acts as a shock absorber for your spine making the riding experience very therapeutic. Users of these Bareback pads often comment on the fluidity of their horse and improved muscle tone.

..............................................

OPTIONAL FEATURE: Equipped with fixed D-rings beneath the flaps on either side, you have the option of adding stability to your ride by attaching stirrup leathers/irons or western fenders/stirrups (found HERE) making this virtually a treeless saddle! While adding stirrups to bareback pads is strongly discouraged for good reason with the lack of interior support in typical bareback pads on the market, the Macon Extra Sheepskin pad's state of the art 3-Mesh inlays and double sheepskin layer provide ample & adequate protection for the measured use of stirrups. It goes without saying that riders are encouraged to not rely on the stirrups heavily and still ride with the mindset of fluid & balanced bareback equitation.

..............................................

This bareback pad is also ideal for:

  • Backing horses
  • Schooling youngsters
  • Sensitive backed horses
  • Horses recovering from back injuries
  • Horses that have trouble with saddle fitting for any reason
  • Novice riders being taught to get a good riding position
  • All fields of natural horsemanship!

View FREEDOM RIDING ARTICLE's line of various Macon bareback pads (some without kneerolls) HERE (this is a link to F.R.A.'s PDF catalogue. Options for the Macon bareback pad can be found on pages 22-26. Other unique bareback pads can be found on pages 16-20 in the catalogue).

EKKIA in France also has a few more traditional bareback pads HERE. I do not personally endorse the use of stirrups on pads like this, but do like the concept of the Norton "Confort" pad, which is quite similar to my "Best Friends" bareback pad that I have quite enjoyed using the last 4 years or so before I found the Macon Extra--and still use on occasion to this day for spontaneous jaunts around the farm!

If you would like something specific that either of these two companies offers, just fire me an email from my Contact page, and I would be happy to price it out and order it in for you! (NOTE: Both FREEDOM RIDING ARTICLES and EKKIA do not retail to the general public)
